COE Scholars

CHAT is working with Baylor College of Medicine to expand opportunities for undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students, medical students, clinical fellows and junior faculty to receive didactic, experiential and research instruction as well as personalized mentoring as a Center of Excellence (COE) Scholar.

The goal of the COE Scholars program is to increase diversity in academic medicine and health care practice by:
  • Expanding the pool of qualified minority candidates applying to medicine (MCAT scores and admission rates into medical schools) through courses, activities and mentoring.
  • Improving performance of minority medical students (outcomes: increasing graduation rates and USMLE scores).
  • Introducing them to research exposure early so that they can see value in academic medicine.
